A NEW TRAVEL ERA
NEW TRENDS, NEW WAYS OF TRAVEL
A new recent publication of studies realized by Expedia hasdetected very important changes for the future of travel trends, the habits havechanged… that means the market (the potential customers) have new expectations, new needs and new demands.
We need to consider including these new elements in yourbusiness and in our designs… 2022 are we ready?
This article will try to explain these trendsand how we can all adapt for the new market needs.
“New words, new concepts of travel”:
To define some of these trends we will be earing new English words defining these behaviors
Travelers will focus more on Land transportation methods such as roads and trains, including RVs and outdoor camping trips. What it means? Two words: Proximity and convenience. The market supplier of clients will be closer than previous years, think more local.
To consider: Airlines might launch some special offers to fight this trend.
Slow down and enjoy, don’t rush to see the next place, just enjoy and discover the actual one at a deeper level. By slow traveling, you can soak up rich and exciting cultures and experiences, taking away a more comprehensive understanding of people, places, traditions, cultures and ways of life.
What does it mean? Remember the typical Europe tour of “10days, 4 countries”? Those days are over, travelers will focus more on discovering on a deeper level the destination: “10 days, 2 cities”
To consider: Complementary activities in destination, how to do more things in the same area?
THE BLEISURE 2.0
(Bless + Leisure, no longer Business + Leisure)
Travelers are searching for a more “special” feeling, they even want to go through a transformation, they want to learn, expand mind and soul and doing meaningful activities and feel an improvement: To finish better than before starting. What it means? An increase in the need of “sense of wellbeing”
To Consider: There will be a huge demand in activities like Spa, relaxation, detox, yoga, meditation…
Staying in one place during the whole vacation time, even feeling some isolation, including private destinations, resorts, outdoor camps (contact with nature considered as isolation from the city)
What it means?
To consider: The concept of “Retreat” is going to be huge demand
Food is another good pillar of the holidays, the guest willrequest better food options, more unique dishes and nicer presentations (for social media) Hotels also will need to adapt to these trends toprovide a more “special and satisfying” experience, they should provide moreoptional activities and engage guests
It is expected that “Boutique hotels” and “Charming hotels” will grow like never before
From now on, Travel is no longer about “going somewhere” orthe “I was there” typical expression;
It’s is more about how will make you feel the experience oftraveling, how special or unique the experience was.
If you want to open a BnB, do not open another “just thesame BnB than 200 meters away”, make something that makes the guests feelspecial.
“It is not about luxury; it’s about feeling unique”
